About Us

Stockport Youth Wind Orchestra, formerly Stockport Schools' Senior Wind Band, is formed from some of the finest young woodwind, brass and percussion players in Stockport schools.

Our current musical director is Phil Robinson MusB, PGCE, LTCL, a music teacher at Stockport Grammar School who also directs their wind orchestra and the Manchester University Wind Orchestra, and we have strong links with both of these ensembles.

We perform regularly at the Royal Northern College of Music and at Stockport Town Hall and in the past have played in the Manchester Evening News Arena and the new Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall at the University of Manchester and entered the National Concert Band Festival.

We play music from classical to film scores and even the faintly silly at times and our repertoire includes some of the newest and most exciting works written for wind band. In the past year we have played pieces including:
